African Business Sustainability Council

The African Business Sustainability Council (ABSUC) is a pan-African, multi-stakeholder membership organization established by the African CEO Council (ACCE) to promote sustainability leadership, responsible business practices, environmental stewardship, social impact, and good corporate governance across Africa.

ABSUC provides a high-level platform where companies, financial institutions, development partners, government agencies, academia, professional associations, and civil society organizations collaborate to accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable, resilient, and competitive African economy.

The Council serves as a regional centre of excellence for sustainability by facilitating executive leadership, capacity building, policy dialogue, research, innovation, peer learning, and strategic partnerships. Through its programmes and networks, ABSUC supports organizations in integrating sustainability into corporate strategy, improving Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance, strengthening climate resilience, and contributing meaningfully to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the African Union Agenda 2063, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and national development priorities.

Rationale

The establishment of ABSUC is driven by several priorities:
