African CEO Roundtable

A Flagship Initiative of the African CEO Council

Connecting African CEOs to Markets, Capital, Knowledge and Influence.

The African CEO Roundtable is a high-level executive dialogue and business-engagement platform of the African CEO Council.

It brings together chief executives, board leaders, business founders, investors, policymakers and institutional leaders to discuss the most consequential issues affecting African enterprises and develop practical responses.

Unlike a conventional conference, the Roundtable is designed as a focused, confidential and action-oriented forum. Participation is generally limited to a carefully selected group of decision-makers capable of contributing practical experience, institutional authority and relevant relationships.

The Roundtable operates through:

  • A quarterly continental African CEO Roundtable
  • National CEO Roundtables in selected African countries
  • Regional CEO Roundtables
  • Sector-specific executive sessions
  • Private CEO and policymaker dialogues
  • CEO–investor meetings
  • Virtual executive briefings
  • Special emergency or issue-specific sessions

Discussions align with the African CEO Council’s five strategic priorities:

  1. Intra-African trade and market access
  2. Access to capital for growth companies
  3. CEO, board and governance capability
  4. Digital transformation and responsible AI
  5. Sustainability and ESG leadership

Each Roundtable seeks to produce practical outcomes, including business connections, investment discussions, policy recommendations, research findings and agreed follow-up actions.

Background

Africa’s chief executives operate in a business environment characterised by considerable opportunity and persistent constraints.

The continent offers:

  • Expanding consumer markets
  • A growing working-age population
  • Entrepreneurial talent
  • Rapid digital adoption
  • Abundant natural resources
  • Increasing regional integration
  • Emerging industries
  • Significant infrastructure needs
  • Expanding trade and investment opportunities

However, African enterprises must also manage:

  • Fragmented national markets
  • Currency and economic volatility
  • Restricted access to capital
  • High operating and logistics costs
  • Regulatory inconsistencies
  • Infrastructure constraints
  • Political and geopolitical uncertainty
  • Cybersecurity and technological disruption
  • Climate-related risks
  • Skills shortages
  • Weak public–private coordination

Chief executives often address these issues individually, despite facing challenges shared by companies across countries and sectors.

There is a need for a trusted platform through which decision-makers can exchange practical intelligence, develop relationships, engage policymakers and collaborate on matters that cannot be resolved by one organisation acting alone.

The African CEO Roundtable was proposed in response to this need.

Context

Africa already hosts several large conferences, exhibitions and economic forums. These platforms make important contributions to visibility and public discussion, but their size and format can limit confidential executive engagement and meaningful follow-up.

CEOs require a different environment—one in which:

  • Participation is selective.
  • Discussions are focused.
  • Confidentiality is respected.
  • Participants are decision-makers.
  • Contributions are concise and relevant.
  • Commercial solicitation is controlled.
  • Policy dialogue is constructive.
  • Follow-up responsibilities are defined.
  • Outcomes are documented and monitored.

The African CEO Roundtable complements major conferences by providing a smaller, more disciplined setting for executive dialogue and relationship-building.

Vision

To become Africa’s most trusted platform for confidential CEO dialogue, strategic business collaboration and constructive private–public engagement.

Mission

To connect African chief executives and institutional leaders through focused dialogue, practical intelligence, business relationships and collective action addressing the continent’s most important enterprise and economic priorities.

Goal

To strengthen African enterprises and improve the business environment by enabling credible decision-makers to exchange knowledge, develop partnerships and shape practical responses to shared challenges.

Purpose

The African CEO Roundtable provides a trusted setting in which participants can:

  • Discuss critical business and economic issues.
  • Exchange practical leadership experience.
  • Develop cross-border commercial relationships.
  • Connect companies with investors and financial institutions.
  • Engage policymakers and regulators.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Produce constructive recommendations.
  • Mobilise support for strategic initiatives.
  • Strengthen executive and institutional relationships.
  • Monitor emerging risks and opportunities.

Core Objectives

The Roundtable:

  1. Convenes credible African decision-makers.
  2. Strengthens relationships among CEOs across countries and sectors.
  3. Promotes intra-African trade and investment.
  4. Improves access to finance and investment partners.
  5. Facilitates constructive engagement between business and government.
  6. Advances responsible corporate governance.
  7. Promotes digital transformation and responsible AI.
  8. Strengthens sustainability and ESG leadership.
  9. Provides practical market and policy intelligence.
  10. Develops recommendations on barriers affecting African enterprises.
  11. Promotes collaboration among established companies and growth enterprises.
  12. Supports the African CEO Council’s research and programme agenda.
